How to Get Your First 10 Customers in 30 Days

May 27, 2026 · 8 min read

The first ten customers are the hardest and the most important — they're your reviews, your referrals, your proof, and your confidence. The good news: for a local service business, first customers respond to effort, not budget. Here's the 30-day sequence we bake into every BizMatch launch plan.

Days 1–5: The warm 50

List 50 people who know you: friends, neighbors, coworkers, the group chat. Send each a personal (not broadcast) message: what you're doing, who it helps, and one direct ask — 'who do you know that needs X?' Warm networks forgive imperfect starts; strangers don't.

Expect 3–5 real leads from a genuine warm-50 push. Serve them impeccably at a founding-customer price in exchange for an honest review and two introductions.

Days 6–15: The neighborhood blitz

  • Pick a tight service zone — one to three adjacent neighborhoods
  • 300 door hangers with one service, one price anchor, one QR code to book
  • Post genuinely useful before/after content in local groups (value first, pitch second)
  • Set up your Google Business Profile with real photos on day one — it's your storefront

Days 16–25: Referral sources, not just customers

One realtor, property manager, or complementary business (the cleaner refers the junk hauler; the groomer refers the sitter) can send you more customers than a month of ads. Pitch five of them with a simple deal: fast response for their clients, a referral thank-you for them.

Days 26–30: Follow-up — the unfair advantage

Go back through every quote, conversation, and maybe from the month with a friendly two-line follow-up. Most service businesses never follow up once; doing it twice recovers deals you'd already written off. This one habit converts a mediocre month into a booked one.

None of this scales — and that's fine. Ten happy customers with reviews is escape velocity: from there, Google starts working, referrals start compounding, and marketing becomes amplification instead of survival.
